Around the autumn equinox, daylight begins to shorten. The days are no longer so long, and there is a hint of coolness in the wind. Every year at this time, there is a kind of illusion: as if everything is wrapping up, and yet everything is rushing toward a final stretch.
This year, with the Fire energy strong and the ninth period adding another layer, Fire is doubly present. Fire governs brightness and visibility, so some industries are especially easy to notice. This year, Fire energy is abundant, so Fire positions are naturally lively. But liveliness is not the only value. Those in Metal positions make their structures solid through contraction. Those in Wood positions deepen their roots through cultivation. Those in Earth positions hold their foundation steady through bearing. Those in Water positions weave tight connections through flow. These things are not easily seen, yet they often determine how long the Fire positions can burn.
- First Ask Where You Stand, Then Ask If This Year Is Prosperous
Rather than asking, "Is my industry prosperous this year?" first ask, "What is the core craft of my industry?" Prosperity is the climate outside; core craft is the root inside. Climate changes, but roots do not grow on their own. Those in Fire-related industries may want to watch one thing this year: turn exposure into trust, and heat into return visits. Those in Metal, Wood, Earth, and Water industries may also want to watch: there is no need to rush for the light; first make what is in your hands thicker.
